Richard Quinones, M.D. is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. He believes that being a good doctor demands a commitment to life-long learning and works effortlessly to keep up with the latest research in his field to provide his patients with the most advanced treatment options which may preserve their vision.
With a passion for teaching, Dr. Quinones has had the pleasure of participating in the education of the Chicago area ophthalmology residents since 1996 and is currently on the faculty of Edward Hines VA Hospital in Maywood, IL. He has been invited to lecture nationally and internationally colleagues on the most effective diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. Further, Dr. Quinones has been the principal or sub-investigator on a multitude of research projects and is currently a primary investigator in the NIH-sponsored COAST study on Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty.
He is described by his patients as “dedicated”, “the best”, and “the one who saved my sight”. His peers describe him as a “tireless worker” who goes above and beyond for the needs of his patients. Doctors he has mentored state: “he taught me everything I know about glaucoma”.
Dr. Quinones has been an advocate for patients and our profession, having served on the board of the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology, as a Councilor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and as Past President of the Chicago Glaucoma Society.
Outside of the office, Dr. Quinones enjoys catching up with old friends, running, listening to music, and reading.
