Dr. Chris Albanis joined several other Illinois ophthalmologists for a vision screening in Aurora, Illinois for this community service opportunity in conjunction with the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology (IAO), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The vision screening was part of an entire medical screening and sponsored by the Family Bridges of Chicago, a nonprofit organization that offers social services throughout the Chicago area.
The vision screening model was based on the AAO’s EyeSmart® EyeCheck created to combat undetected eye disease and visual impairment in the United States. The goal is to raise awareness and understanding of the impact of moderate eye disease and visual impairment, particularly among minority populations who disproportionately lack access to eye care. Over 200 people had eye examinations and were much appreciative of the care received.
