Kelley Bohm, M.D.

About Dr. Kelley Bohm:

Dr. Kelley Bohm is an ophthalmologist specializing in cataract, cornea and external eye disease and refractive surgery. She grew up in central Pennsylvania and completed her undergraduate studies in biomedical engineering at the Schreyer Honors College at Pennsylvania State University, where she graduated summa cum laude. She then moved to NYC to complete her medical degree at the Weill Cornell Medical College. She completed her transitional internship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC prior to moving to Chicago to complete her residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Eye and Ear Infirmary. She presented her research at several meetings and was awarded the ASCRS Foundation Resident Excellence Award and the Knights Templar Foundation Grant.

What is her specialty and treatment philosophy?

Dr. Bohm pursued a subspecialty fellowship program in cornea external disease at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. She performs corneal transplant surgeries (DMEK, DSEK, PKP), cataract surgeries, and laser refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK) and is interested in maximizing her patients’ usable vision, using a multimodal approach when necessary. She believes that optimal patient care requires teamwork between the patient and physician, and enjoys getting to know her patients and developing this relationship.

Why did Dr. Bohm become an ophthalmologist?

Dr. Bohm was initially drawn to ophthalmology because of its surgical focus, but she was compelled to become an ophthalmologist because of the ability to impact people’s lives by helping them maintain or regain the ability to see the people and world around them. She also enjoys the ability to develop lifelong relationships with her patients while caring for their eye problems.

What does Dr. Bohm do outside of being a doctor?

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Bohm enjoys traveling with her husband, biking, cooking, and trying as many new restaurants around Chicago as possible.
